2026-09-27 11:30:00

Vehicle Overview

The Deepal L07 is a D-segment intelligent fastback sedan launched in September 2024 by Deepal Auto, the new energy vehicle (NEV) brand under Changan Auto. Positioned as a "tech-focused smart executive sedan", it is available in both pure electric (BEV) and extended-range (EREV) powertrains. Serving as a strategic model co-developed with Huawei, it is officially touted as the embodiment of "Deepal Super Range Extender on one hand, Huawei Qiankun Smart Driving on the other".

As of June 2026, the current iteration on sale is the 2026 Deepal L07, which officially debuted on 13 August 2025. It comes in six variants (four BEVs and two EREVs), with official retail prices ranging from RM145,900 to RM165,900, coming down to RM135,900 to RM155,900 after factoring in early-bird launch rebates. The 2026 model marks the second annual update following its maiden launch in September 2024—a rapid rollout pace described by motoring media as "churning out three iterations in a single year".

Key selling points include standard Huawei Qiankun ADS SE advanced driver assistance across all trims (a segment-exclusive feature at the RM150,000 price point), Deepal Super Range Extender 2.0 technology, a rear-motor rear-wheel-drive (RWD) architecture, and standard adaptive damping suspension. Direct competitors include the BYD Seal 06 DM-i, XPeng P5, and Leapmotor C01.

Design Language

The Deepal L07 carries forward the brand's signature "Tech Aesthetics" design ethos, sporting a wide-track fastback profile that achieves a low drag coefficient of 0.215 Cd. Its design earned the Gold Trophy at the Italian A' Design Award for 2024-2025, adding to the ten international design accolades secured by the Deepal design team in recent years.

Up front, the sedan features a fully enclosed nose flanked by "Deepal Eye" daytime running lights (using thick-wall light-guide optics) and split LED headlamp assemblies that deliver strong visual presence. The rear is defined by a 1.2-metre "Super Red" full-width LED light bar consisting of 136 LED units with dynamic lighting sequences. Standard kit across the range includes frameless doors, flush pop-out door handles, a 1.9 m² Low-E heat-insulating panoramic glass roof, a powered fastback tailgate, and an active pop-up rear spoiler. BEV variants ride on 19-inch semi-enclosed aero alloy wheels, while EREV variants get 18-inch wheels. Five exterior paint choices are offered: Stellar Blue, Nebula Green, Comet White, Moon Rock Grey, and Star Mineral Black. Additionally, blue auxiliary driving indicator lights are integrated into the wing mirrors to signal automated driving engagement to surrounding traffic.

In terms of dimensions, the L07 measures 4,875 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,480 mm tall, with a generous 2,900 mm wheelbase, placing it squarely in D-segment territory. The fastback tailgate opens to a standard boot capacity of 473 litres, expandable to 1,180 litres with the rear bench folded down, balancing sleek styling with practical utility.

Inside, the dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch leatherette and comes in three cabin colourways: Ocean Floating White, Sunset Flight Orange, and Space-Time Exploration Black. The traditional instrument cluster has been omitted in favour of a 55-inch AR-HUD, paired with a 15.6-inch 2.5K floating "Sunflower" infotainment touchscreen (which swivels electrically by ±15°) as the primary driver interface. Rear passengers get a dedicated touchscreen and dual tablet mounting ports, forming an interactive "Five-Screen Intelligent Cockpit".

Powertrain & Performance

The Deepal L07 is offered in EREV and BEV configurations, with both setups adopting a rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive layout.

The EREV variant features the Deepal Super Range Extender 2.0 setup, pairing a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (72 kW) purely as an on-board generator without direct mechanical connection to the driven wheels. The engine claims an average thermal efficiency of 44.39%, generating around 3.7 kWh of electricity per litre of fuel. The rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor is offered in 175 kW and 200 kW outputs, delivering a peak wheel torque of 3,814 Nm and a 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.2 seconds. Power is stored in a 28.4 kWh CATL-supplied lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, yielding a CLTC pure electric range of 240 km and a total combined range of 1,500 km on a full tank and charge. Fuel consumption in discharged state is rated at an impressive 3.48 L/100 km (NEDC), running on RON 92 petrol.

The BEV variant is driven by the next-generation Force Super Integrated Electric Drive system with SiC power modules and "Triple-V" motor magnet technology. The rear electric motor puts out 200 kW, matching the 0-100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds. Buyers can choose between 56.1 kWh and 68.8 kWh CATL-supplied LFP battery packs, providing CLTC ranges of 550 km and 660 km respectively, with an energy consumption rating as low as 12.0 kWh/100 km (CLTC). BEVs also come standard with active grille shutters, cutting aerodynamic drag to add roughly 10 km of CLTC highway range.

For charging, both powertrains feature segment-first 3C ultra-fast charging as standard, capable of a 30% to 80% state of charge (SOC) top-up in under 15 minutes, or over 100 km of range in just 10 minutes. The EREV also supports DC fast charging, ensuring quick and fuss-free turnaround times.

Chassis & Handling

Under the skin, the Deepal L07 is built on the brand's dedicated EPA1 new energy platform, standardising a rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive setup across the range. Compared to front-wheel-drive alternatives, this layout yields a more neutral front-to-rear weight distribution, significantly reducing body roll in the bends and offering crisper, more communicative steering.

Suspension-wise, the L07 is the only model in its segment to feature standard adaptive variable damping across all trims. Using Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) shock absorbers alongside Hydraulic Rebound Stops (HRS), the setup automatically tailors damping forces to driving conditions—firming up during high-speed cruising for high-speed stability, and softening over rough tarmac to soak up road imperfections. An integrated One-Box brake-by-wire system eliminates excessive nose-dive under hard braking, squat under acceleration, and harsh judders over speed bumps. Additionally, the rear suspension adopts aluminium alloy H-arms to reduce unsprung mass, sharpening throttle and braking response. While BEV and EREV models share the same chassis underpinnings, the BEV gains a slight dynamic edge thanks to a lower centre of gravity. Drive modes include Eco, Comfort, and Sport.

Cabin & Features

Inside, the Deepal L07 revolves around its "Five-Screen Intelligent Cockpit". Compute power comes from a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip (8-core, 5nm process), replacing the older 8155 unit found in the 2025 model. Running the latest Deepal OS 4.0, app launches and multitasking are seamless and lag-free. The central display features a 3D interface rendered on Unreal Engine 5, complete with fluid transitions and customisable widgets. The built-in AI cabin assistant combines Deepal's proprietary AI models with Alibaba Cloud and iFlytek tech, supporting multi-zone voice command recognition from both front occupants with lightning-fast response times.

On the comfort front, upper trims for 2026 receive Cloud-Feel Dual Zero-Gravity Front Seats (16-way power adjustment for the driver and 12-way for the front passenger), complete with memory, ventilation, heating, and eight massage modes. The front passenger seat reclines flat to a relaxing 128-degree angle at the touch of a button. In-car audio is handled by a 20-speaker (also cited as 22-speaker) Dolby Atmos sound system pushing 1,632W via a 7.3.4-channel surround layout, backed by acoustic double-glazed glass for a refined, lounge-like listening experience. Other amenities include a 50W cooled wireless charging pad, 64-colour dynamic ambient lighting, an active fragrance diffuser, rear privacy glass, and rear Type-C and HDMI ports. An extra HDMI port behind the front seatbacks allows rear passengers to plug in gaming consoles or external displays on the go.

Safety & Driver Assistance

On the driver assistance front, the 2026 Deepal L07 is the first in the RM150,000 saloon segment to pack the Huawei Qiankun ADS SE intelligent driving system as standard across the range. Built on the new WEWA architecture, it shares its foundational software algorithms and architecture with Huawei's top-tier Qiankun ADS 4. The sensor suite comprises a 192-line LiDAR unit, five millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and HD cameras for full 360-degree environment mapping. Key capabilities enabled by the Huawei Qiankun suite include:

  • Highway Navigation Cruise Assist (Highway NCA): Features automated highway ramp entry/exit, active curve speed management, automated lane changing, obstacle avoidance, and adaptive speed control, boasting nationwide operational readiness with over 99.2% expressway coverage.

  • City Lane Centering Control (City LCC): Includes traffic light recognition with automated stop-and-go, turn-signal-activated lane changing, and active lane keeping.

  • All-Scenario Automated Parking: Encompasses Remote Parking Assist (RPA), Exit Parking Assist (EPA), and Automated Valet Parking (AVP) (with select functions enabled via over-the-air OTA updates), leading the segment in tight-space slot recognition and parking success rates.

For active safety, the car features the CAS 4.0 Omnidirectional Collision Avoidance System with 20-directional active collision mitigation, making it the sole model in its class with comprehensive all-angle collision prevention. Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) operational envelope and braking speeds are class-leading, alongside superior side, rear, and pedal misapplication mitigation.

In terms of passive safety and drivetrain redundancy, the Deepal Smart Electric Drive Hub offers dynamic torque management. In extreme system fault scenarios—such as a motor resolver failure—the vehicle can still limp to safety at speeds of up to 92 km/h, providing drivers with a crucial safety window to pull over.

Market Performance & Reception

Market traction for the Deepal L07 has been relatively lukewarm since its launch. While monthly deliveries topped 3,000 units from October to December 2024, numbers plateaued going into 2025, hovering between 2,000 and 3,000 units monthly. Deliveries slipped further in June and July 2025, recording just 2,602 units in July and falling short of the top 10 domestic mid-size NEV saloon charts. Following the launch of the 2026 model in August 2025, sustained sales performance remains to be seen, with several motoring outlets remarking that the car "looks solid on paper but suffers from execution gaps". By comparison, Deepal Auto recorded around 170,000 cumulative sales from January to July 2025, trailing significantly behind its 500,000-unit full-year target.

Key factors behind the sluggish sales include a mismatch between product packaging and mainstream buyer demand, moderate brand equity, internal cannibalisation from the closely styled Deepal SL03, and intense price wars from direct segment rivals.

On the consumer front, owners have lauded the cost-effectiveness and performance of the Huawei Qiankun smart driving suite, the engaging rear-wheel-drive dynamics, the roomy fastback boot, and the EREV's low running costs. On the flip side, criticisms focus on the modest scope of updates on the 2026 model over its predecessor, overly familiar styling that lacks freshness, weaker brand pull compared to Deepal's SUV lineup, and the fact that several advanced ADAS features still await future OTA rollouts.

As the only D-segment saloon in the RM150,000 price bracket to feature standard Huawei Qiankun ADAS across all variants, the Deepal L07 stands out by delivering high-end tech to mainstream buyers. However, breaking through in an ultra-competitive mid-size NEV segment will require sharper product life-cycle planning and more compelling marketing efforts.
